One of the rights the Founding Fathers of the United States wanted to make sure was protected was the right to bear arms.
Why was this so important to them?
It’s because they had seen the cycle of tyrants enslaving the masses, and the eventual rising up of those masses to defend themselves against injustices. They knew first-hand that each individual needs to be able to protect home and family.
It’s a reasonable assumption that banning guns will not keep them out of the hands of criminals. As crime rates and terrorism increase, there is more need than ever for law-abiding citizens to be prepared to protect themselves, their family and their property.
Michigan’s Constitution states that, “Every person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state” (Art. 1, Sec. 6).
As governor, I will protect our right to defend ourselves
