Something Worth Seeking
It may not be the Fountain of Youth, but every civilization since the beginning of the world has valued it and pursued it. Success in finding it does not require wealth, extreme intelligence, or even extensive knowledge. It’s hard to find; it’s even hard to define. Yet when you see it, you recognize it.
We’re talking about wisdom. It encompasses the ability to make sound judgments and choices. It helps provide balance and purpose in life. Unfortunately, being smart does not guarantee that a person will be wise.
A wise man two thousand years ago described wisdom as “pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” Picture someone who has these values. Then picture a state or country whose leaders are seeking these values.
If I am elected governor of Michigan, I will seek to lead with wisdom. People will be first, not politics.

What causes change in a society? The most significant changes I have observed are when people work one-on-one with other individuals. This normally happens within families, but can also be in the form of mentoring, training, teaching, and just befriending. There is a transfer of knowledge and skills, and a growth of significance and value in the relationship. Character, work ethic, and personal integrity can be developed. These are changes that can have long-term effects on individuals, families, and communities.
We can all be intentionally involved in these kinds of changes. Churches and service organizations are often good places to engage in activities for positive change.
It has been said, “BE the change you want to see in the world.” If we want to see positive change, we must engage and be a part of it. We, ourselves, need to be growing and changing if we want to have that kind of influence on others. “You can’t teach what you don’t know any more than you can come from where you haven’t been.”
How about you? Are you growing and changing in positive ways?
